My Story - a little about me
Welcome to Honouring Māmā!
Kia ora! I'm Kirsty, and my journey into parenthood with my husband Duane and our two beautiful kiddos, Indie and Roman, was far from the blissful experience I'd envisioned.
Despite our diligent preparation for our first birth, we found ourselves utterly lost on the other side of it. I had no idea how to nurture and heal myself postpartum, and we fumbled through early parenthood, feeling overwhelmed and unprepared. It was then that I realised how often we overlook the birth of parents, especially Māmā, on those momentous birthing days.
As I connected with other Māmā, I discovered a universal need: for our birth stories to be heard, and for time to heal - emotionally, physically, and spiritually. This realisation hit home when I was expecting my second child, and unprocessed emotions from my first pregnancy resurfaced. I hadn't realised the traumatic undercurrents of my first pregnancy until then.
My son's pregnancy brought its own challenges, pushing me to step into my power, challenge the medical system, and develop an unwavering belief in my body and our baby. My experiences led to two births that looked similar on paper but felt worlds apart in reality.
Beyond birth, we faced the phenomenal responsibility of parenting. What often goes unsaid is how this journey can unravel us, stirring up our own childhood hurts. I grappled with anxiety when my daughter was little, feeling triggered by her cries. This tension affected her deeply - her toes were permanently curled, and sleepless nights became our norm.
Then, by some divine intervention, I discovered Aware Parenting while listening to a podcast about co-sleeping. It was the missing piece in our attachment-style parenting approach, showing us how to honour our children's emotions while meeting our own needs as well. It transformed our family dynamics completely.
These profound personal experiences drove me to become certified in Birth Debriefing and Aware Parenting. I also trained in Sacred Postpartum and Sacred Pregnancy support, rounding out my understanding of the full journey into motherhood. Honouring Māmā was born from my heartfelt desire to offer the support and guidance I longed for during my own early motherhood journey.
Today, I focus primarily on Birth Debriefing and Aware Parenting support. I'm here to listen to your story, to nurture and honour you as a Māmā, and to walk alongside you and your family on your unique path through parenthood.
Whether you're processing your birth experience or seeking tools to navigate the complex terrain of parenting, I'm here to support you. Let's embark on this journey of healing, growth, and connection together.
